Gaia Oikos

Residential

Category: Residential

Location: A sub tropical place

The Gaia Oikos residence is a balance of opposites; light and shadow, rough and smooth, open to exquisite views and protected within thick earthen walls. This creation is a 2,300 square foot single bedroom, one and a half bath home with a large work studio that could also be 2 additional bedrooms as required.
We are proud to be collaborating with architect and designer John Driscoll to bring Gaia Oikos to life. It is our philosophy to bring creative people together and expand our imaginations and manifestations collectively.
The insulated rammed earth walls are a sustainable solution as well as an integration with nature and landscape in such a way that the the natural beauty of the environment is truly reflected in the architecture down to the smallest fractal detail. The home has an open floor plan but one that we think is also well articulated with protected and cozy private spaces. An elegant curved continuous counter defines the kitchen which tapers seamlessly into the dining area with disappearing cabinetry and shelving. The large fireplace is the focal point of the grand living space and a bank of accordion doors look out to a sweeping circular reflecting pool – providing shimmering light and cool breezes. Like a Japanese garden, these elements suggest the sea and sunset as depicted in these breathtaking renderings.
In a sense, Gaia Oikos transcends the prosaic function of form, light and space and inhabits that fertile ground of poetry and imagination. A true sanctuary for your body and spirit.
