Africa Permaculture Homes

Single Family Residences

Category: Residential

Location: Benin and Ghana, Africa

Designed for a soon to be named social housing organization, the purpose of the Africa Permaculture Homes series is to bring sustainable living to a wider audience. Give more people the opportunity to live in a beautiful rammed earth home at an affordable price, weather they are a middle class family or an individual working on a farm. Simple and efficient floor plans combined with artistic elements that respect the culture and tropical environment give the homes a feeling that is uncommon with modern construction practices.

Sustainability is the inspiration for these rammed earth homes. Stabilized rammed earth walls last for generations and are no maintenance. Solar panels with battery backup are planned as well as a charger for an an electric vehicle. Each home has rainwater collection to save water for the garden in the dry seasons, this not only gives people fresh nourishing food, it also saves them money as food prices can increase substantially during dry seasons.
